Halima Khan - Founder and Director 

Halima has worked in the sports industry for over a decade and has seen first-hand the challenges surrounding women of different faiths and cultures wanting to step into sport.

 

Her experience in the sporting industry has seen her take on roles with various governing bodies and equality organisations where she has championed and pioneered new and innovative ways to engage with people from diverse communities into sports and physical activity.  ​

 

Halima is a founding member and director of Opening Boundaries and is extremely passionate about raising awareness of women in sport and using the tool of sport as a vehicle for social change leading to a world where females are empowered and inspired through sport and can participate without any prejudice or discrimination.

 

Currently working for a National Charity, and an Independent Director focusing on Diversity & Inclusion for Triathlon England, is simply one string to her ever growing bow of roles in sports organisations, as she leads by example from the grassroots to board level advising on issues around diversity and inclusion in sport.

 

Halima has pioneered many projects at a local and international raising awareness of how sport can be used as a tool for change.​ She has also lectured at the Leeds Beckett University to students wanting to gain a degree in various Sports disciplines.

 

Halima on Opening Boundaries : “Sport is a powerful tool for engagement in bringing people from different backgrounds together whilst raising awareness of the issues surrounding women's equality and global peace”.

 

“I set up Opening Boundaries to empower people to reach their potential through the medium of sports and physical activity.  I hope to raise awareness of issues around diversity and inclusion in any form and encourage people to come forward and be the change they want to see”.

Afsheen Khan - Director  (Chairman)

Afsheen is a current International Product Innovation Manager for Nobia who are a leading kitchen company in Europe. Her experiences lie in being results orientated and consumer focused with a proven track record of launching initiatives and entering new markets.

Afsheen has also worked for Hallmark Cards - M&S Division achieving sales growth of £7.1 to £8million through an improved product and store development.

 

Afsheen has been a part of Opening Boundaries from its inception and will be providing strategic advice and guidance to ensure the organisation can become self sustainable leading to long term development and growth.

Neil Speight - Director  (Treasurer)

Neil Speight is the CEO of Bermuda Cricket and has been working in the field of sport (cricket) for over 10 years looking to develop the sport from a grassroots to international level.

 

Neil’s work entails developing the sport both on a participation and sponsorship/ revenue basis. Neil also takes on a role with the ICC as a representative of the ICC affiliate members and lobbies the ICC on improving and supporting the development of cricket for underrepresented cricket nations.

 

Neil is a registered Charted Accountant and before stepping into cricket worked in an executive position for KPMG. 

Thameena Majeed - Director (Secretary & Safeguarding Advisor)

Thameena is a Director of Science at a Secondary School Barnsley. Her experience and knowledge of working with disadvantaged young people on educational projects will be critical in developing our programmes for young people at a grassroots level.

 

Thameena will also be working with Opening Boundaries to maintain and keep up to date on issues around safeguarding. Previous to her role as a teacher Thameena worked in the legal field and will be providing support & guidance to Opening Boundaries on any such matters.
